NYC Museum Parking

Trying to find NYC museum parking can sometimes feel like a trip into the dark ages or an event that takes longer than the actual museum visit. We’ve listed the the more popular NYC museums and parking suggestions to help make your trip easier.

American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West @ 79th St

The American Museum of Natural History has its own parking, right underneath the museum by entering on W 81st St. It will cost you about $20 – $30 for 5 hours. You might find less expensive rates, and maybe even an Early Bird Rate, by going West towards West End Ave and Riverside Drive.  But the Museum rates are actually pretty competitive.

Cooper Hewitt, 2 E 91st St, near 5th Ave

This is an expensive area. Try the garage on E 90th St between Madison and Park Aves, but expect to pay $45 for 3 hours. You can look for an Early Bird Rate of around $17 on E 89th St between Park and Madison Aves, and you’ll need to enter before 9am. If you really want to save money, head over to East End Ave or 1st Ave and you’re sure to find an Early Bird Rate of $8 – $20 where you can enter as late as 10am or 11am.

Frick Collection, 1 E 70th St, near 5th Ave

The two garages on E 70th St between 5th and Madison Aves will cost your about $25 – $35 for 2 hours, $30 for 5 hours, and more than $40 for any hours over that. You might find Early Bird Rates on E 87th St between 5th and Park Aves of $27, with an arrival time no later than 10am or 11am.  If you really want to save money, head over between 2nd and York Aves, near the hospital, where you’re sure to find an Early Bird Rate of $15 – $20.

Guggenheim Museum, 1071 5th Ave @ 78th St

Any nearby garage will cost you about $35 for 1 hour, $50 for 2-3 hours, or $50+ for any more time. The best rates are between 2nd  and York Aves on E 74th and E 75th Streets, where Early Bird Rates are $15 – $18 if you enter by 10am or 10:30am.

International Center of Photography, 1133 6th Ave @ 43rd St

There are three large garages between 5th Ave and 7th Ave/Broadway that you can enter from either W 44th St or W 43rd St. The 2 hour rate will be $25 – $30, 10 hours will be about $35. If you get in before 9am or 10am, the Early Bird Rate is $21 – $26.

The Jewish Museum, 1109 5th Ave

This is an expensive area. Try the garage on E 90th St between Madison and Park Aves, but expect to pay $45 for 3 hours. You can look for an Early Bird Rate of around $17 on E 89th St between Park and Madison Aves, and you’ll need to enter before 9am. If you really want to save money, head over to East End Ave or 1st Ave and you’re sure to find an Early Bird Rate of $8 – $20 where you can enter as late as 10am or 11am.

Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Ave @ 82nd St

The MET has its own parking garage with an entrance on 5th Ave.  Any nearby garage will cost you about $35 for 1 hour, $50 for 2-3 hours, or $50+ for any more time. The best rates are between 2nd  and York Aves on E 80th St, where Early Bird Rates are $10 – $14 if you enter by 10am or 10:30am.

Museum of the City of New York, 1220 5th Ave @ 103rd St

This is a tough area for off-street parking.  Try E 107th St and Madison for rates about $15 for 2 hours, $20 for 12 hours. There are three outdoor lots on E 108th St between Park Ave and 3rd Ave.

Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Pl @ 1st Pl

You have about four garages for parking here with one each on Rector Pl and 2nd Pl, and two on 3rd Pl. Early Bird Rates are about $25 and you need to enter by 9am. Otherwise, you’re paying $20 – $25 for 2 hours and $30 – $35 for 10 hours.

MoMa: Museum of Modern Art, 11 W 53rd St, near 5th Ave

This is another expensive area for parking — midtown Manhattan. There are two garages on W 53rd St with an Early Bird Rate of $25 in you enter by 10am. The hourly rates are $25 – $37 for 2 hours and $40 for 10 hours. You’ll do much better for pricing and avoiding NYC traffic by going over to 1st and 2nd Aves.

New Museum of Contemporary Art, 235 Bowery St @ Prince St

The streets are short here so even walking a number of blocks isn’t too bad. Try the garages on Mulberry St between Prince St and Spring St, Kenmare St between Mott St and Mulberry St, or the corner of Kenmare St and Elizabeth St.

New York Historical Society, 179 Central Park West @ 77th St

You can use the parking garage at the American Museum of Natural History on W 81st St for $25 for 1 hour and $35 for 2 hours , but you won’t benefit from the Museum Visitor rates. You might find less expensive rates, and maybe even an Early Bird Rate, by going West towards West End Ave and Riverside Drive.

Whitney Museum of American Art, 945 Madison Ave @ 75th St

Any nearby garage will cost you about $35 for 1 hour, $50 for 2-3 hours, or $50+ for any more time. The best rates are between 2nd  and York Aves on E 74th and E 75th Streets, where Early Bird Rates are $15 – $18 if you enter by 10am or 10:30am.
